Toronzo Cannon
Blues guitarist, vocalist and songwriter recorded on Alligator Records. Toronzo’s humorous song Insurance is a highlight on Chamber Blues More Different Voices.
Growing up on Chicago’s Southside, Toronzo Cannon fell in love with the Blues at neighborhood clubs. In 2007, he self-released My Woman, which was followed by Leaving Mood in 2011, and John the Conqueror Root in 2013 both for Delmark Records. The third 2013 release was nominated for a Blues Music Award as Rock Blues Album of the Year. He signed with Alligator Records in 2015 with a debut album The Chicago Way that was released in 2016. Blues Matters UK said: “Toronzo is the real deal. Blistering guitar and inventive songs: jealousy, double-crossing, knives and hand grenades… Chicago style." For over 20 years, Toronzo drove a Chicago Transit Authority Bus during the day while performing at night. The Chicago Sun Times sums it up this way: “The Bridgeport resident (and CTA bus driver) was immersed in the world of blues by hanging around Theresa’s Lounge. Today, he’s one of Chicago’s greats.” His 2016 album The Chicago Way was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2017 as Album of the Year. Toronzo is featured on the 2022 Corky Siegel’s Chamber Blues release More Different Voices which garnered a Best Recording of the Year for Downbeat Magazine.
